Delight

It's a command I can't seem to keep. Suggestions?

What do you really, really love to do? Start to do it regularly.

I was wondering what any others would say in response to this as well.

I looked up delight on Bible Gateway and it was interesting... among other things... that we should delight in God's word, and that He takes delight in us. It's been making me think about that - taking a delight in God's word and His delight in us. I think it might be something that happens gradually, if we are longing for that to happen.

I don't know how to explain it. But, the less I study God's Word, the less I delight in it. And the more that I do study His Word, then the more I seem to delight it in. It's not something that I can make happen. But something that God gives, if only I look to Him.

When I saw your post, I was hoping for some insight as well, as joy does not come easily to me. I think Anita's answer is a good one: sometimes we must choose to do the things we know we must. Interestingly enough, "Delight yourself in the Lord" is a command, which tells me it is a choice I must make.

Something someone told me years ago applies here as well: Discipline leads to desire which leads to delight. I must discipline myself to choose today the things I know I need: His Word for example. The more I choose it, the more I desire it. Gradually my desire gives way to delight!

I have to remind myself that discipline doesn't mean legalism, but a choice to pursue what is best...

I don't know, this may turn into a post of my own!
